Speaker Installation
I need to replace my door speakers and am looking for some insight. Does anyone know how deep of a speaker will fit in an '84 when measuring from the back of the speaker mounting holes? Also, do you recommend using a speaker enclosure and if so any particular brand? Thanks.

...i got an excellent set of components 5.25" with 1" tweets by focal - with focal grill - that sound awesome and didn't require any additional cutting into the door...of course my car already had the tweeter cut-outs just below the window switch...

Generally, the door is deep enough for any speaker. However, the hole is for a 5 1/4 round speaker and so many 6" speakers won't fit in the hole without cutting or adding a spacer. I don't have photos of my install but I did what many others here have done and I made a spacer out of a plastic cutting board that was 3/8" thick and that enabled my 6" round speakers to fit.
Do a search and you will find many photos of this method. Vern |
