This happens on my B7 A4 2.0t daily, it drives me nuts. On my wife's 1.8t Jetta i've never had this problem.

Those light oils are favorites of today's manufacturers to meet the stringent DOT fuel economy requirements as well as needed to operate the variable cam timing hydraulics (VarioCam).

What are the oil weights that are called for in Europe for the same cars? Sometimes they are a bit "thicker" than what is called for here due to our CAFE standards.

My 3.2 uses a quart of Brad Penn maybe every 2000 miles. My daily '10 Golf TDI uses virtually nothing over the 10k oil change interval. And that's a good thing, because it requires oil even more obscure than trying to find Brad Penn on the shelf.
