Fiberglass bumper install cost

Hi all,

Have a quick question for anyone with some experience in the area of Fiberglass bumpers. I do not have the time to install them myself and was wondering what the cost would be for mounting, on average. I know this is very subjective but I am looking for a ballpark figure. I was quoted 1500 from one shop and then 2000 from another. This cost is almost enough to make me do it myself, so any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

Also I have two options on the mounting. Keep in mind that this will be mainly a DE/autocross car. 2 will be a tad bit more than 1. However, I think will be more useful from a function stand point.

1) regular mounting, pretty much like the typical bumper
2) use dzus fasteners front and rear so in the event I take out too many cones or one too many offroad excursions bumpers are no big deal to replace.

One thought for cost saving on option 2 is that one shop could do the bare fabrication. I could save money by doing the wiring myself and being everything is fabbed on the bumper it will be no big deal to remove them and take them to a paint shop.

all depends on the quality of the bumper and how well you want it to fit. 1500. to fit it, make mounts, paint it and install it sounds about right for a quality job.

I did mine for free, just paint, bumpers, hardware, and time. But if I were doing it for someone than yeah, $1500 is about right. lots of fitting and fussing with most brands of fiberglass.

You can get it done for less - but the pain and the aggravation is not worth it. I had front and rear painted and installed for 900 dollars and I have had to deal with electrical issues since.

In fact, car is in pieces right now as I walk the driver's side wiring ...

at $4 an hour (what I pay myself for Porsche car projects) - I easily had that much money into F/R fiberglass bumpers...

If you want Dzus - then definitely take it to some who know what they are doing.

BTW - there is no such thing as a "typical" fiberglass bumper installation.

Bolting on a set of fiberglass bumpers is easy IF they fit well. If the fit is bad and you have to modify them then all bets are off. Attaching the bumpers with dzus fasteners requires significantly more work, including fabrication (custom brackets, welding, maybe fiberglass work, ducting). It's probably not worth going the dzus route unless you have to remove your bumper to get the car onto the trailer.

Thanks all for the input.

I am going to actually be going to 2 shops for the work. Eurosport in Denver is going to Dzus the front end and fab it all up for me. Then my bodyshop guys are going to do the rear and all necessary prep and painting. I really want the Dzus front since it'll be easy to replace, and I think it'll be kinda trick on the car. Also it will see a trailer as well, so it just kinda makes sense.

Oh ya and after about 100 or so cone hits I'm sure it'll be pretty beat up too.

I can vouch for the pain ill fitting fiberglass bumpers can cause ... I'm in the process of installing front and rear bumpers and the rear bumper mounting studs that are glassed in are 1.25 inch off ... and the front is a little better but will need relocating one side as well !

Cheers
Phil
