If you really want to see well at night, upgrade to the Euro H4 with the HID conversion. Everything fits in the headlamp bucket. We have done a 964 and an '88 Carrera with both owners very happy with the results.

Here is a link for 993 HID conversion, not the same kit as we used above, but we are ordering a kit to see the quality of it all. Very attractive price.

the problem is with the h5 lens' aiming pattern, mandated by the us dept. of transportation (DOT).

The european h4 headlights have a sharp cutoff like modern HIDprojector headlights (hence the 2 suggestions)

You could try throwing in high watt h5 bulbs (Do 964s need relay upgrades for hiwatt bulbs like my carrera?), but ultimately swapping out light assemblies is your best bet.

The H4 light assemblies will go in directly, although they mount very differently than the H5s.

Wiring socket is different, you'll need to build adapters or change the socket.

The painted H5 rings will not fit on H4 assemblies. You'll need to leave them chrome/black, or buy a pair of primed H4 over-rings and paint them.
