Hand Throttle Parts, Can it be MADE??????
Hi all from Australia, can the parts numbered 79 and 80 below in the diagram be made???(mainly part 79),the lock screw(part 80) could come from the local hardware store , any ideas as I have purchased a complete hand throttle off a fellow pelican as well as a new plastic control fork??(you know, the part that breaks after becoming brittle in the tunnel)and new hand brake boot cover. I have put a WTB in the parts forum for 10 days but no responses,no parts here in Australia,Sooooooo,I`m wondering if it could be made (part 79) any ideas would be much appreciated.

I say any part can be made provided you have the tools to make it --- or the resources. Those are small parts... should be relatively easy of inexpensive if you outsource.

Yes, its just a collar with a set screw. Find one the right diameter for the throttle rod. I think its 4mm.

Set screw - hardware store.
Collar - Make from round steel bar stock. Plastic fork - I machined my own for my '75. PM me an e-mail address and I'll send you the drawing I used. |

You could use the brass insert from a suitably sized electrical connector (the so called chocolate block) Cut the plastic off and then cut a slot in the side of the brass connecter that has the screw threaded into it. Easy peazy, skill knife and hacksaw and you are done.

I used a kit for wire ends. I took some time to machine it right with hand tools but it has hold fine for some time now.

Check with a motorcycle repair shop....they have tons of different size and shape wire fittings that either set screw on...or are soldered.
