Post speed trial USA

yesterday, i had the chance to run my '73 911E on the willow springs race track at speed trial USA. it was tons of fun.

for a relatively modest fee ($130/day), i got 20 minutes of track time per hour. i was grouped with other "beginners". there were tons of other great cars -- NSX's, vettes, BMW's, acuras, VW's, nissans, toyotas, mercedes, etc.

a few porsches made a showing including at least 1 fellow PPP (pelican parts poster). i thoroughly enjoyed the day and learned a lot about how my car handles at speed. up until now, i had only driven in one autocross event. this was quite a bit different.

other than the intense heat of the desert, i would recommend this event to everyone. there is a friendly atmosphere, the track staff keeps everyone in line, and in case of a spinout, there is a tow service to help you out of trouble.

It was great meeting you at the event, tmctguer. For the rest of you, tmctguer has a pristine 73E with original paint and a factory leather interior. It's a gorgeous car, and I'm going to take the liberty of posting some pictures I shot at the event:

Interesting treatment with the tape on the headlamp and directional lenses, tmctguer!

For intimidation purposes, have you ever thought about a horizontal red treatment above and below the trim strip on the bumper ... with some menacing, huge, triangular, white teeth above on the leading edge of the hood and below on the cowl/spoiler? That might just distract someone who saw it in the rearview mirror, as you approach! You could change the headlamps to white 'eyeballs with blue centers ... and red veins for a 'bloodshot,' hungry effect!

alright, already on the tape !!!

it was cheaper to tape 'em than to replace them !! seriously, i'm going to invest in a pair of headlight covers to keep them safe next time i'm at the track.

on the other hand, the bloodshot eyeball design might be cool.............
