Anyone ever repaired a Sport Seat bolster foam?
Have this pair of mid year sport seat cores. The foam is still chunky and has good shape, except for the missing worn driver's left side. I was looking for an option to the high cost of seat foam. Has anyone done their own repair? I was told, a piece of foam could be sectioned and shaped, with a electric knife and sander. I'd appreciate any feedback.

I watched an upholsterer cut foam with an electric carving knife --- turkey knife. Then sand it to smooth the contours.
On a leather note... Not sure how you are going to approach the middle section of your seats... but mine has the perf pattern in the leather. Looked for this perf'd leather and couldn't find so I created a paper template and punched the holes one by one. Sounds insane but doesn't really take that long. Used calf skin --- very soft. That skin has to be backed up with a permeable membrane so it has some substance while allowing air to easily vent through it. Good luck on your seats!

I did that this spring, on an '84 sport seat.
Find some good foam, preferably the same type (density). Cut the defect to a square (ish) shape, and glue the new foam in. Then electric knife, sandpaper, scalpel, etc, whatever gets you to the right shape. After that there is the risk that the glue line is harder than the foam. In that case, find a thick, soft fabric (I used fleece) and glue over the whole bolster. This will "hide" the glue line and hold the foam much better. It also brings some welcome volume to the foam that is most likely flattened somewhat, and will prevent unsightly creases on the leather cover, that come from lack of foam volume. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just had my Recaro's recovered...on the bolster he cut the top half off horizontally (down to solid original foam) and used glue to attach the piece he shaped...looks/feels perfect.
