Idle on a 1987 911
Hi there pelicans. I have a quick question regarding the idle adjustment screw in my 1987 3.2 . My idle is right at 890 which i did myself by bridging termianals b and c etc. Etc. In order to get my idle to be at 890 rpm. I did notice that i had to screw in that screw quite a bit of turns from where it initially was before . The reason i tinkered with the idle was because it was low at 800. Does this idle screw have any effect whatsoever on the performance of the car as far as making it feel heavier or lighter in the accelerator? Please advise

Nope, no effect, the idle is controlled by your DME (ecu)
I am sure you know this but your tach starts from 200RPMs, so the dash before 1000 mark is your 800, after she is nice and warm, the needle sits just below the middle of the two marks, right? Middle would be 900RPMs, above that would be 910-920RPMs. Side effects, your DME will work overtime if base idle is not adjusted properly. You could damage it. Lower than spec idle is an indication of a vacuum leak, put it back to where it was and remove the oil cap to see if there is a change, if not, you have a leak somewhere. Jim
