Euro Spec Difference?

Hello Forum Members, I am a new Porsche owner of a Euro car, a 1985 Coupe. I would like to know the differences in a RoW car and a U.S. spec car. I bought my car several months ago and have spent a bit of money on a rebuilding the transmission, new front valance (factory), brake booster, replacing the whale tail that was busted, deck lid also. I put back the factory Fuchs on the car and it made a huge difference in the way it drives. I love this car! I have owned 2 Corvettes and this car handles so much better! Any info from fellow forum members would be greatly appreciated.

This might help

European vs US Carrera

I only know few on the exterior difference like ride height, bumper guards and tail light lenses which mods I took to replicate the euro look.

Here is some info - Not all US vs ROW - but info. You get what you pay for. :-)

Brake pad wear indicator in 1984

85 fuel tank increased from 21.14 to 22.46

Starting in 85 - trunk carpets matched interior carpets

Nikasil barrels (from 3.0) but turbo crank (longer stroke - giving the extra 0.2 vs. 3.0)

ROW moved from 9.8 (ROW SC) to 10.31 compression ratio. 9.51 for US 3.2

93 RON for ROW and 91 RON (unleaded for US)

Same valves as SC but larger head ports. (US/ROW)

Some cam timing (ROW/US) differences but nothing too radical (you can adjust the SC the same way if you wish)

Higher crowns on pistons/ lower roof height - More so for ROW given higher compression ratio.

Gearbox oil pump not on SC's (915's)

Fourth and fifth gear were lengthened - US versions fifth was a little shorter.

231 BHP ROW - less on US.

PM me your e-mail. I will send you the info source I am pulling this from.

There is more.

Nice car, BTW.

FYI - any good driver (like me) in a stock US SC can crush most any later model 911 variant. 3.2, 930, 993TT, GT3 RS, etc. Just ask any SC owner here.

I have a 1982 row non sunroof coupe with a 1986 ROW 3.2 in it. I have had this car since 2005 and have tried to accurately understand the differences between US and Row cars. Many differences are well documented in the mentioned threads. I will add a few that I am aware of. For 1982 at least the ROW Trans has a shorter 2nd gear and taller 5th gear. Both are different by one tooth so not huge but still different. I always believed the tall 5th was for autobahn cruising. Another rarely mentioned difference is that (at least on my 82) there is a smaller door beam making the doors lighter and I guess less safe. However, because of federalization efforts many row cars in the us have been "modified" to US specs to varying degrees so not all ROW cars have all the differences. My car has the fender lights, smaller rear bumperettes, Euro H4s, smaller door beams, no sunroof, also a typically euro pascha interior, brown headliner, no Trans cooler , no LSD. I'm not sure what wheels it came with and I've made some changes since I've had the car including removing the stock rear bumper and interior stuff etc for further weight reduction. As with so many of our cars originality is more and more rare every day. Overall I am a happy ROW owner.

Wow - substantially less for the US.

Compression is your friend.
