Obviously some cars are driven in severe conditions, or poor oil is used in them, or both. There is no hard rule of thumb, but to change at 3K without consideration of the circumstance and product employed is wasteful of resources. |
VW bug oil was turned filthy the minute you turned on the car after an oil change. It only held 2 and a half quarts. Tossing out 10 quarts of good oil is a waste. Just going in a smelly old motor. Most of these cars have already done their job going well over 150,000 miles. We are not talking about a Lamborghini here.

I like that Fumoto drain valve. I've often thought that rather than changing all the oil at say 6000 miles it would be better to drain a 2 litres of old oil, and add a 2 litres of new oil every 1000 miles.
That way the oil is constantly being replenished and always in good condition. The Fumoto valve would facilitate this schedule. Just a thought |
Why don't they have a Fumoto for the '84-'89 Carreras?

Pretty sure the oil tank drain threads are the same as earlier 911s. The valve shown with the hose connection may not be in the Pelican parts catalog. S |

I'll do a different search on another engine. |
Re using oil defined...Old Yeller, the home built special that would often beat the latest Ferrari's, often used re-used oil.
Old Yeller 2 - The Official Website of this Famous Race Car The owner would go to other pit areas and ask for their freshly drained oil so he could 'freshen' his car....it was also part of the heavy psyche he put on other drivers...wide white tires, used spark plugs etc. but he often beat the pants off Maserati's, Ferrari's and any other comer. |
