Newby 911e owner
Greetings! I recently purchased a 1970 911e targa from an estate of a friend. it has been in storage for at least 15 years and will need significant help to become road worthy again. I have several questions that i hope one of you can help me with. The vin is 9110210392. beyond the 911, and 0, what does the rest decode to? also, neither door will close, although there seems to be even spacing front and back and i have not found evidence of crash damage anywhere on the car so far. any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Check the straps on the inside of the door (between door and body panel). These straps alone may not retract back into the housing on the door side when closing. Also the way these straps are mounted through the door the door section itself could be cracked and broken. This is not uncommon as stress over the years will crack the metal and the housing has no hold any longer for the strap. Their are repair kits available to remedy the problem. DO NOT force the door closed until you have identified the problem. Good idea to take the door panel off to check everything out. For now I would lubricate the heck out of the hinges, strap area, etc to see if just something is sticking.
Congrads on the car. Welcome to longhood ownership! You came to the right place for community help and support. Bob 1973.5T |

Congrats on the 70E Targa. I had one back in 1982. A car in storage for 15 years will typically have the door latch mechanism stuck in the open position. Very often, when you pull the lever to open the door, the mechanism sticks in the open position and the door will close but not latch. As Sunrood said, it needs lubricated.

Additionally, there were only 933 of your model made. The VIN number range was 9110210001-9110210933. So your car was #392 of the 933 made.
