Heat in the North East,911 bake...

It was so hot here yesterday (98d) I got into my 86 late afternoon and the plastic door pull seemed gelatinous to the touch. Everything else seemed fine but concerned about the 26 year old adhesives, dash, and other plastic bits in the interior coming apart.

I got the car inside asap to cool her down and left her home today due to no shade at the office and we again bake here in the northeast.

Apply SPF protection to prevent burns, and aloe if you've got burns.

Wimp.

We have 100+ degrees days all the time. It was 108 last year several times. It was 113 one day last year. It was over 100 degrees for 63 days in 2011.

Wimp.

We've already seen 118* this year for several days and will see daily temps of 100*+ for months strait.

Dash cover, tinted windows, windshield shade, a good oil cooler and upgraded A/C make my SC a tolerable daily driver in the summer here in AZ.

my car is safe in the shade of the parking garage here at work. I have a climate controlled garage at home to protect my baby.

I agree, it is very hot here today. Next week is supposed to be better!

We all stay home with more than a 8 inches of snow. It gets to zero on rare occasions but not often. The 911 stays home in the heated garage if there is salt on the roads.

The heat is not always what kills these cars. The UV rays are terrible for the fabrics and plastics used on many of the parts. Use one of those windshield screens in your car when it is left out in direct sunlight (unless you are driving of course) and keep in the shade as often as possible. I have been using my 944 as a DD for the past 2 summers with out working AC and the heater is kinda stuck on.... But its more fun than a Honda with AC.

Regards
Dave

Yeah, looks cool. I'll plan on it for a few hours, weather permitting!

Will there be beer?

I hear ya, not a big fan of the white stuff but really would prefer 5F to this 95F soup we are in.

There will be. Come out to the BagRiders BBQ and meet some of the local folks - we're probably going to have a group head downtown after for a few cold ones. Hotel in the city is recommended. Good, down to earth people.

I would take heat over cold every day of the week and twice on Sunday. My friend prefers the cold. His argument is that you can always put on more clothes to deal with cold but you can only get naked when it's hot. Both extremes are miserable to work on the car in.

I live like 40min away...no need for a hotel. I don't plan on drinking so much that I won't be able to drive

It's so much the temperatures, it's the humidity that's a killer. I drove my SC yesterday and left the top on and used one of those windshield, shields. I bought the smallest ones I could find and even then they bow inward quite a bit. It certainly made a big difference on the dash. My leather dash wash warm, but not scorching hot like it would have been without the shield.
