993TT motor issues
A customer brought his Turbo to our shop because of an oil leak. This turned out to be a pandora's box. The leak was mostly around the right side turbo with some weeping at the left turbo. We removed the right turbo to have about a half quart of oil dump on the guys shirt from the inlet tube. The left side was almost as bad. We sent the turbos to Ruf for a rebuild. When they came back, the leak and issues remained. My boss called one of the last remaining Andial guys. Did I mention this is an Andial built car? It sounds like the car hasn't seen to many speciality techs as many of the Andial parts have been replaced with stock Porsche parts... such as oil lines. What has us worried is that looking into the heads, there are white chips. I believe this may be some sort of ceramic coating? Any ideas on where to procede?
Edit: Oh yeah, we are a body shop... a good one though... but not a Porsche mechanical shop. |
This should have been posted in the 964 993 forum; can on of the mods move it there. Thanks.
If anyone has any ideas on what the next step should be for this motor I'd love to hear it. |
You need to make sure the car has Porsche oil filters, 9qts of oil (after draining)
and the latest oil feed and drain lines from Ultimate motorworks Ultimate Motorwerks - Zero Clearance Turbos Owners name is Kevin he knows the cars (and their problems) well. He posts over on rennlist 993 turbo forum frequently. I work on a bunch of these and they're a pain in arse |
Check Rennlist, the place to go for 993 matters.
