1970 911T Sportomatic, lost 3rd gear
My sportomatic was running great yesterday, but now it won't shift into D3. I slide the shifter into D3 but it thinks it is in neutral. Every other gear works perfectly. If I am really, really careful, I can get it into just the right spot and D3 will kick in but it is not so easy at 40 mph. It can't be the vacuum if every other gear works, What am I missing?
I have been simply bypassing D3 but that is not a long term solution. I have read every sporto post on here but did not find this particular problem. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Does it still have a shift coupler like a manual? I would start by inspecting those bushings.

Start with the shift coupler, it might be loose on the shift shaft. Be sure the set screw is safety wired once tightened.
