drain hose under cowl for a 71

In this pre paint picture there is a larger diameter
clear hose about 3/4" that has a Y that then
goes up under the cowling. What it this meant
to attach to ? I have this posted on the early s site and have been advised that it goes to an evaporator box , but i cant see anything to attach it to?? There is a Y there and looks like it should be two connections under the cowl but no luck on seeing anywhere to connect it??
I can't for the life of me see anything that it goes to. Thanks for the help.

I have a 71T and the box that the tube attaches to is a fuel expansion tank (or something like that). It is a black box about a 3" cube. The topic has been discussed on this forum in the past (4/18/2013). Here is a link to the topic:

Fuel Expansion Tank/bleeder - longhood

Also, I "Binged" (the alternative to "Googled") the part number 90120106222 and found venders with new boxes ($185), but PartsHeaven has a used one for $65.

I don't know if the box has any effect on the operation of the car, but if the hose is not connected to the box or plugged you will have a strong gasoline smell in the car.

Good luck

Bob

I suspect that a PO improvised an evaporator loop instead of having the box in place. Do the two ends of the tube that is connected to the "Y" make a loop under the cowl? If there is no evaporator box under the cowl, you smell no gas fumes, and there is a loop, then you have an improvised system. If the two ends from the "Y" are open, then you have a problem.

That is definitely a home made setup. Hopefully it is the properly rated hose for fuel, emmissions and not just generic from Home Depot.
Here is an expansion box, center black box in ad, $11.00. 1970 Things
