Groovy 70's Rally wanna be

Our attempt at a faux Rally survivor. Started out as a poor running, poorly cared for 76 that was going to the scrap yard. We affectionately call it "Der Esel", translated "The Donkey". The transformation is nearly complete, glass install this week and suspension adjustment next. Going to be a tight fit for the tire/wheel combo we have, but it's all part of the adventure. Take a look.

I've always like the brown, orange and yellow schemes of the '70s. Very popular on factory 4x4's like the Jeep Honcho.

That's a bold color scheme but it works very well. Nice!

996 Esq, sorry for taking up your time. Oh that's right, you bill by the minute. I notice most of your posts are negative, I guess there has to be balance. Oops, that was 2 lawyer related jokes. Is there a specific forum for that?

I'm liking the look of the black painted bumpers, is that crinkle paint?
Good save!

Cheers Richard

Actually the "wrinkle" finish is spray on pick-up bed liner. It is tough as nails and you can vary the texture by how fast you move as you spray. I like to move quickly and get an even finish of tiny "grains" vs clumpy under-coating look. Thanks for the support all. We dropped the car at the Glass guy this morning. Should be back by tomorrow afternoon. We have a bunch of final assembly stuff to do as well as mount the passenger seat and belts. We have a bunch of period correct stickers we will be asking all to give thoughts on the stickers and if we should put them on. Thanks again all!

A great and unique look! It reminds me a lot of my parents VW Vanagon.

(these colors, but normal wheels)

Are those so kets used as spacers where the Smog Pump Bracket was removed?

Looks sweet and I'm currently trying to figure out how to rip that ugly thing out on my '78sc.

They are sockets. They were supposed to be temporary but they have grown on us. Might have been a roadside fix back in the day! LOL
