Windshield replacement

I need to replace my windshield on my 2009 Carrera. The dealer wants $1,100-$1,200; Safelite will do it for $650.00. Safelite swears they are the same quality, thickness, probably same supplier, etc?

Is there any difference?

I bought my windshield from Stoddard and it is a factory part. Be sure you have the same size and the tint accross the top.

I've been told that aftermarket windshields for the newer cars have antenna issues. Apparently some being sold don't even have antenna wires in them???? Rumor has it made in China. Beware!!!! Buy the best, cry once.

Go to the local auto glass store. Not chain.

150 bucks for the install.

They will order the glass of your choice at your price point.

I don't do dealers.

No car manufacture makes glass, not do any of these glass shops. They just order their glass from distributors and install them. Find a shop that can order and install the same brand glass that is currently in the car.

Here in Florida windshields are replaced free by insurance companies (well we all pay for it with higher insurance I guess). The glass shop I went to clearly indicated there was knock off windshields available, but they helped me convince Progressive that the Porsche OEM ones fit better, so that's what we ordered.

You've got a 2009....I wouldn't do a knock off on a car that new. If I was buying that car, I'd wonder what else you replaced aftermarket....Safelite can do OEM. I specified it on my Mercedes.
