Top Not Latching

My 87 Cabrolet top latch motors seem to be out of sync. I would usually try to keep the top from slamming down when I was putting it up but I think I got the two latch motors out of sync. There seems to be a series of switches that control when these motors engage to latch the front end of the top down to the windshield bracket. I have not been able to get both sides to latch together. Both motors seem to be working ok. I cannot locate any information on this site as to how the motorized top works and if there is any way to get the latches to work together again. Anyone had any experience with this? Locally, have not been able to find any shops that even know where to start. Thanks for any ideas.

First, if you provide your location you might get one of the experts to chime in. I'm no expert but I have had the problem with an 87 and a 98 911. Put your zip code under your handle "BHOFF". Larry

I did this write up a while ago. It sounds to me like one of the brass gears in your latching motor has cracked and is no longer "synced" to the microswitches

Thanks for the replys! Sorry, was away from my computer for some time and could not get back. I really appreciate any information on the cabriolet. I did several searches through this forum and found nothing so will work my way through this data. I may have caused this myself because I always try to keep the top from slamming down into the latch pockets. When this happened, one of the latches caught and the other was still outside of the pocket so the switch did not activate to operate the latch motor on that side. One side latched and the other was not. kept trying to get them synced but nothing seemed to work.
