Need Permatune Help

I have an 82 3.0 SC motor in my 914 with Webers running a
Permatune box with the built in coil. Here is the problem I am seeing.

When I turn the key to the on position before cranking the tach swings up to the top and drops down.

When I crank the engine I get a weak crank like the timing is to far advanced. If I stop after a few seconds an try again it cranks fine but I get no spark intermittenly, and when I do get a spark from the coil its a weak spark.

If I disconnect the Permatune it canks fine every time no problems.

All the grounds look good.... I am thinking about chucking the permatune and going with an MSD. Anyone see this type of problem with the permatune box.

I am thinking the permatune is going since I get Intermittent sparks....Just not sure how the permatune could make the engine crank slow when it is hooked up.
