oil line back date

heres the deal oil back dated my 79 3.0sc motor, put header on her,and now i have a motor on the stand split the cases and found 2 con rod locked up,its like the lower con rod bearing wear oil starved, but the pnly way they moved was to loosen rod bolts, this motor was a strong clean running motor before the oil line backdate was i suppose to purge the oil line or something, oh well time to MODIFY!!!!!!!

I doubt if your oiling issue is the result of the backdate.

This is probably the most common change done with the 911 oil system, as its required when installing SSI heater boxes or headers. The next most common change is adding a front oil cooler.

Has this motor had any previous issues with oiling? Did you find any evidence of issues in the oil strainer or oil filter? #2 is the last one to receive oil so its the first one to go when oil starved.

Do you know the entire history of this motor? Any chance it was rebuilt by that "expert" Motor Meister (cough) some years back?

possibly just some gunk in the crank oil passage starved the bearings. blow them out and see if they were clogged. The change in the oil line could not cause this problem. Look for other reasons for starvation and ensure all oil passages are clean.

Your engine failure due to oil starvation (?) has nothing to do with the backdated oil line. The backdated oil line in good condition should have no effect unless it was clogged or restricted. The difference between the OEM (wrap-around) and backdated version (under the trans) is the shape or bends. Both are connected to the same source (engine side) and to the auxiliary thermostat.

What made you think it has caused you this engine failure? Keep us posted.

Its a purge valve. Connect a hose from your air compressor and force oil out of the line when doing an oil change

One thing is certain, since you have had a oil starvation problem, you must thoroughly clean out the entire oil system including ultrasonic cleaning of both oil coolers.

Anything less is a huge waste of time & Money.

Listen to Len on this one. ANY oiling problem that results in bearing damage means you have to clean, disassemble or replace every single part that receives oil. EVERYTHING. It's a real mess.
  • Oil tank (ultrasonic clean)
  • Both oil t-stats (can disassemble & discard/replace regulators)
  • Both oil coolers (ultrasonic cleaning a must)
  • R&R engine case plugs, cleaning ALL oil passages.
  • Flush your nice Elephant oil lines and any other lines with solvent and pipe "pigs". Pigs are foam pellets you push through the lines with air to swab the lines clean.
  • Camshaft & rocker arm/valve spring oil feed tubes
  • Cam housing oil supply lines
  • Chain tensioners (if Carrera pressure-fed style)
  • Chains
  • R&R plugs from crankshaft
  • R&R plug from intermediate shaft
  • Check oil pump for damage (disassemble)
  • Remove bypass and safety pistons, clean bores
  • Clean "J" pipe in engine case (goes from oil pump pressure side to t-stat bore)

You don't want any bearing debris getting dislodged and funking things up.
