air box new or repair?
Looking for some group wisdom. I have been fixing all oil and vacuum leaks on my 82 SC. Engine is out and on a lift table so work is comfortable. My air box has come unglued. A small part of the lip in the underside has broken off into the top groove. A few of the screws are stripped. I think I could glue it back together nicely and use bolts to replace the screws. It does have a pop off valve. Would I be better off to just add another close to $500 more to the project and spring for a new air box? I think I know the answer but already have a couple of thousand into the project and could keep going with other small fixes a car of this age could use. Would like to use funds where best spent.
Thanks, Bill |

I would get the new one. If you glue it, it will split again soon.(ask me how I know)
Definitely worth it to do it now versus pulling it all apart in 6 months. |

Epoxy the airbox back together and then use an overlay of fiberglas cloth and epoxy to re-enforce the seams. Fill the stripped holes with a good epoxy and redrill/tap.

If I understand correctly Porsche fixed the backfire issue with the later airboxes. You might be able to put the whole thing behind you with a new one.
