Thrust (Enegizer) blocks for 915 trans

Rebuilding my 915 trans...

I am now reassembling the synchro sets on gears 1-5.

I am asking advice on new thrust blocks I received as part of an enegizer kit for 3,4,5. The kit included anchor and thrust blocks, and brake bands. The aftermarket kit is apparently for the 915 transmission, but I can not find it's part number in any parts references i have. (915.302.111.?)

While comparing old parts to new (an obsessive habit of mine), I noticed discrepancy between the old and new thrust blocks. Please see the attached photo below, the new one is on the left.

As you can see, the new thrust block has a different side profile than the old one. When I placed it on the synchro hub, it appears the side is cut out in order to clear the synchro hub teeth under operation. In contrast, the old thrust blocks profile allows it to rub on the teeth under normal operation (I assume this, but i'm not sure exaclty how the synchro system works).

So - which one should i use? I am wondering if the new block is cut in order to save wear on the block and synchro hub teeth. An improvement on the old design perhaps. The other possibility is that the block us from a different trans than mine and it's design would hinder performance in my setup.

I can of course use the old thrust block (no wear) but I thought I would ask for opinions first.

Should I not use this in my 915 then? Or is the turbo part an improvement over the SC part?

PS.
Any chance you could take a quick peak at my mainshaft ball bearing thread? Having trouble with new vs old on that one too, and would love some input

915 Trans - Mainshaft ball bearing

thanks

Steve, I did some more checking on that energizer or thrust block. The December 1995 Parts and Technical Reference Catalog for 911 models1974-1989 lists only the turbo part number 930.302.325.00 for the 3-4 or 3-5 synchronizer energizer (thrust) blocks for the 915 4 and 5 speeds and the 930 (turbo) 4 speed. Stoddard's on-line part system only shows the turbo part number (930.302.325.00) in stock but not the older number 911.302.315.00. The Parts Bin and Vertex on-line parts system reference both the numbers (930.302.325.00 and 911.302.315.00) to the same aftermarket number J1044-83352.
My conclusion: the old part is NLA and the turbo version is being provided for all applications. I would assume Porsche would only do this if it works. Jim

Jim, you are the man.

I can't get over the effort people are making on this board in order to help others. It renews my faith in people, period.

I hope I can return the favour some day.

I will use the 'turbo' thrust block.

thanks again
