Porsche 911 engine weight

Hi.

Does anyone know the engine weight of the older Porsche 911 engines?
Thinking about the 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 and the 2.7 engines.

Anyone got a clue?

Easily lifted by two people if it's just a long block.

Took 3 people for mine (complete). Very heavy and awkward to lift.

At 450 lbs for an early engine and approx 100 lbs for the 901 transaxle, the drivetrain is fairly heavy, especially compared to a 1000cc motorcycle engine that puts out 180-200 HP that weighs 165 lbs including the 6 speed transmission.

True, but you are comparing technology from around 1963 to technology from around 2013, 50 years later. We've learned a lot in that time. What would a 1963 Triumph (if they made one then) put out?

Lo and behold... 1963 Triumph Bonneville and 1963 Triumph TR4:

It is good to see Triumph make bikes again

Sure... Agree with different technology between then and now! Our engines are no lightweights.

But look at the Ducati Diana in 1963 with 30 HP from 250cc. Specific power is lot more than our early 911 engines.

ever hear of a guy driving his Ducati Diana a quarter million miles without any engine work, just tune ups and oil changes? The last leak down I had on my 930-16 was between 3-8 on all pots after 30 years of driving.....drove it 1700 miles to visit a friend recently and got 23 mpg and drove it hard.

But we are talking horsepower per weight. Do you have a weight figure?

I seriously doubt that the engine and tranny combo on my 70 weighs much more than the 450 mentioned above. That would be without muffler. Two people can lift the engine alone. Done it.

Per the 1973 spec book, engine weight w/o oil:
T- 183 kg, (402.6 lbs)
E, S, RS - 182 kg (400.4 lbs)

915 gearbox w/o oil & starter - 54 kg (118.8 lbs)

These would all be mag cases, and I believe (but have no hard evidence) that these numbers include muffler, flywheel, PP, clutch and mounts.

No, it ain't fair.

I can lift the Trumpy short motor solo, not quite with the head on.

But the bike lift makes a handy engine lift for the 911.
