				930 3.4 Oil Pressure Relief Valve - WTF? - With Videos
			 
			
			Can someone explain why the washers and the small steel ball came out of my oil pressure relief valve? It fell out when removed. I assume this is how it was assembled inside. The washers fit inside the piston and match the spring dia. They will not fit over the spring guide. No clue on the steel ball? 
		
	
		
	
			
				* * ![]() * * I'm looking for a solution to low oil pressure at full warm up idle. The pressure is just under 1 bar @ 1000 rpm. On cold start pressure is 4+ bar. As it warms up pressure drops. Ok, that's normal but the knocking noise at idle when its fully warmed can't be normal?? Check out these videos. One is after a few minutes of warm-up and the other is after full warm up. 	the shims are the trial of a previous owner to increase the oil pressure. Shimming the spring effectively increases the spring rate which increases the pressure at which the valve opens. However, I have no explanation for the small steel ball??? A little below 1 bar oil pressure at 1000 rpm sounds normal. You do not mention the warm oil pressure while driving. It should be approx. 1 bar per 1000 rpm. - Manfred  |

			I have no idea what that ball is doing in there I would not put it back. 1 bar at warm idle is normal 15 psi. As far as the washes go I wouldn't put them in either if you do install them under the spring in the cap.

	The pressure while driving is normal. Approx. 1 bar per 1000 rpm. Its the noise that concerns me. When pressure is over 1 bar no noise at all? Any idea what the noise could be? Intermediate shaft? Could it be normal? I've heard other modified 930's sound like this at idle. Thanks!  |

			Porsche's answer to low oil pressure at idle was cam oil line restrictors.  I don't know enough to recommend them or not.  The pros seem to be split on yes or no. 			First thing to do it is to confirm your actual oil pressure using a mechanical guage, not the dash guage.  As you know, the dash guage is notoriously inaccurate. Additionally, it's possible that your pressure sender has gone bad.   
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
			Next would be to address the knocking sounds. There can be MANY possible sources, but to be honest, I wouldn't Plano driving the car much until you get this sorted out. Many of the sources are potentially damaging to the engine. Well, maybe not in that order but I'd do both before running the car too much at this point.

			The washers are a common item to boost the oil pressure, the ball however could be the wrong size installed in the turbo feed check ball assembly on the top side of the case (which falls right straight down) to the assembly you have laid out.

			That makes sense. The turbo oil feed line kit is from Turbo Craft. I didn't install it so can't explain this at the moment. The ball diameter in the picture is 4mm. Is this the correct size. I will contact Turbo Craft when I get a chance.
