What's this wire?

Peeking under '83 SC to diagnose another issue, when I saw this boot (rubber bellows) and wire peeking out, just forward of the passenger side of the tranny support. The wire chases above the tranny, and then to the side, ending up at the clip and on to the white circle/cap on the side of the tranny. I can probably reattach the boot easily, but want to wait until the collective wisdom of the Pelican nation weighs in. Thanks!

The piece on the transmission is your speed sensor for the speedometer.

Push the wire back through into the tunnel and connect it to the speedometer wires near the coupler. (Under the floor panel in the back seat area)
