have any of you california pelicans heard of Motor Meister in Downey, Ca.
says he can rebuild my tired 77 2.7 for $2995 and time cert it. also 915 trany for $795 have 102,000 on this motor and leaks a good amount of oil on the exhaust. he says its definitly the studs pulling out and if i let it go much longer i'll do some serious damage to the engine. car runs ok but its been sitting for 8 yrs and i just started driving it again. his web site is www.motormeister.com any comments would be appreciated thanks russ |

DON"T DO IT!!!! I asked the same question a month or so ago and got nothing but negative from tons of people from this board.
Do a search on this subject, and you will see. you're also sure to get tons of replies to this. I'm glad I asked the same question. ![]()

I don't believe head studs are the cause of your oil leaks either.
could be your oil return tubes, which will leak on your heat exchangers. They can be replaced pretty easy. Do that first, then check other areas for leaks. But do not take your engine to them! My 77 2.7 had 101k miles on it, leaked like a siv. I replaced the oil return tubes, leak gone. Ofcourse then I ripped the engine out and sold it. Installing a 3.0. good luck.

A proper engine rebuild for a 77 911S engine will likely cost $6000 to $8000; a 915 transmission rebuild $1400 to $1800. Beware of the low ball estimate. Jim

Don't rebuild based on leaks! Check the head stud torque to see if the studs are stripped or broken. Your leaks might just be valve cover gaskets, or chain tensioner cover gaskets, or both. MM issues have been well documented here.
