911S Steering Wheel Install Mishap

Hi all,

While trying to install the horn mechanism under spring tension on the 911s steering wheel (purchased from our host) it sprung on me like a jack in the box, and my screws and the plastic insulator washers/bushings/ whatever you call them sprung away. Luckily none of them hit me in the eye or I would be typing with a pirate patch.
My garage is a mess and for the life of me I can't find two of the three bushings.
Does anyone know where I can find replacements for these. I have tried our host and the manufacturer of the wheel and neither seem to be able to help me.
Attached is a picture of what I need.

Thanks in advance,

Gary

Oh man, that sucks, I lost one that way too, just locate some similar OD mylar washers, any od screw with same thread will work fine and place it there.

Hey Draco, thanks for the info.
Where did you source yours. I have searched the web and not finding anything that fits the bill.
If you remember who, much appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

I find when I clean up the garage I will usually find what is lost.Your bound to find those bushings because they are in your garage.Pay close attention to what you sweep up and you will also have the side benefit of a cleaner more organized garage.

I have shelves and layers of stuff. Plus garage door was open so who knows where those thing launched to. I swear I wouldn't be surprised if they are in the next county.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the offer.

I bought the steering wheel from our host, and the brand it is manufactured by "formel"
It is the 911S.

Thanks,

Gary

What year 911S? Can you post shots of the bushing, off of the steering wheel? Side and top shot.

There's not usually any good reason to dismantle that assembly (unless the insulator is toast, which apparently happens eventually). But the complete horn ring assembly is $15 from FVD, look for "Aitwe Formel".

There's at least 2-3 threads on this board with the exact URLs - and also of a shop in Germany that sells extended hubs and other parts (like horn pads) that no-one else seems to have/stock.

Enjoy.

stupid stupid stupid

I think in this case it was stupid user error. Although that spring is not forgiving to butter fingers.
This was a new install. I like the look of the wheel better than my stock wheel on the 1978 911sc.
Of course I am holding onto all of my stock stuff I have changed out including trombone cooler, A/C Motor, and steering wheel.
I plan on keeping this guy forever, but you never know.....

I did clean my garage and did find one of the insulators, so I now have two.

I tried getting ahold of the manufacture and they are flakes. never available, and do not return calls.

Hence me looking for alternatives on this board.

Thanks again

Gary
