intermediate shaft cover leaks!!

hey. this is the second time I did a partial drop to fix the leak around the i.s cover. im positive that's where it is coming from. this past time I took off the cover plate and used a new seal plus used some atv gasket sealer applied to both surfaces. I thought I fixed the problem, but a few days later, I have a small leak again. ok what gives? can these cover plates warp over time? is it best to get a new cover plate? there fairly cheap, about 67 bucks. this small leak is driving me crazy.also im sure its not the nose bearing leaking on me. also when I took the plate off. I probably lost about a 1/2 quart of oil. is this normal when you take the cover plate off?

Well, are you sure it is the IS and not the Rear Main Crank Shaft Seal? Have you taken the pulley off to be sure?

You have to be real careful when installing the IS, the first time I did it, it snagged and tore. Second time I used lube and after keeping it in the freezer to insure it fit properly, no sealant, just proper torque, no more leak.

Man, I am feeling your pain. I use RTV sealant on stuff I never want to leak again - knowing it will be a nasty job on the back end to remove the sealant. I never use it on my Porsche - to add insult to injury. I only use it on a Ford or the like.

The half quart loss thing has got to be a function of (lack of) drainage and timing. It takes quite a while for the engine oil to drain back down.

I would take the bad boy off and put a piece of 220 paper on a flat surface and rub the plate flange surface on it to see how it looks after a few swipes. That should give you a hint if warping is present.

Look for cracks in the part but you already have, I am sure.
