New AC compressor, have question

Read many posts on the subject but still have questions, hopefully the good folks here don't roll their eyes about another AC post

I have an 88' that the PO converted to R134 about 4 years ago and still has non- barrier hoses. I just installed a new Denso compressor and need to know what oil to use. Read that you not to use PAG in system used with system that had mineral oil, but the PO mechanic that did the conversion says to use 4 oz PAG.

Should I ignore him and use Ester oil? Is 4 oz correct? And last question, is it ok to use the oil in pressurized can or add oil before pulling vacuum?

I think it's more like 6 ounces not 4

Here is a good link on oil..

A/C Pro Blog | What is PAG and Ester oil? Do I need them to recharge my A/C?

Ester would be fine. I think it's actually the preferred retrofit, although it seems that with a compressor change most use pag. If you have flushed your system pag will be ok. If you haven't and could have trace r12 I'd use ester.

Maybe some experts will weigh in..
