Tires for 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs on a Lowered 911

My newest acquisition is a lowered 1985 3.2

I found a set of 15x7 and 15x8 fuchs I am considering buying.

I called tirerack and their expert recommended these sizes

Tire Size Front: 205/60-15 |

Tire Size Rear: 215/60-15

He was not able to tell me if my car being lowered would still allow me to use these sizes.

Does anyone know if they will work? I would hate to order them, mount them only to find they will not work.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Andrew - I would go with Toyo RA-1 in 205/50 and 225/50. Awesome tire (stock tread for wet or street and shaved to 4/32" for track) and very reasonable price in those sizes (not available at Tire Rack).

The smaller diameter will make the car quicker (less weight and lower gearing) and give you more tire clearance.

205/50+225/50 is what I run on my 15s. No problems.

My C3 came oe w/ & 7 8 x15 Fuchs tires were 205/50 and 225/50 x15, I agree w/ Grant that that is a great choice for your car, Tire rack does have the RA1 in those sizes.

You may even want to lower you car more than it is now, on mine just the very tip of my shoes fit under the front spoiler lip

I have also run 225 RA1s all around and it looks great and seems to handle fine. The tires look slightly different because of the wheel width so you still have a stagered look. No rubbing issues and car was lowered.

My car is lowered with about 1.25 degrees camber in front. I run 225/50/15s all around on Fuch 15 7s and 8s for autoX. No issues. I think I'm going with the Toyo R888 in 225/235 next time.

I think the RA-1s are much better than R888s, but don't have that size in rear

Oh, my mistake. Guess they started carrying RA-1's - they never did in the past (prices sure have gone up in the last couple years too)...

Don't know if there is any truth to this, but recently some racers I know where discussing the RA-1 versus the R888. They were speculating that the new version of the RA-1 now uses the same compound as the R888 and that the only real difference between the two is the tread pattern. Don't know if this holds water. Curious on other's thoughts on this.

I've got Hoosier 225/45 and 245/45 on my 7s and 8s. They're the street tread ones, car is lowered, tires fit perfectly.

If I were going to choose wheels and tires again, I'd get a rota fox set in 17s, the tire availability is way better and they look great on an sc (my friend has that configuration).

Yes, this has always been the case (same compound on the Nitto NT-01 too), but the tread pattern and and carcass shape/construction of the tire are the big differences. For some reason the RA-1's have much better behavior at the limit compared to R888. The Nittos are great for larger wheel diameters (use them on the 18's on my Evo).

Toyo also make a real slick with the same compound as RA-1, R888 and NT-01 too (but just in 18's at the moment):

My car currently has 205's in front and 225's in rear. Looking through the car's service records, at one point he had Michelin 245's in the rear. The car is stock height, but I'd love to lower it to Euro height and put 245's in the rear. You don't have any problems with rubbing?

BAH - I just realized this is for 15's. I have 16's. Carry on...

Proxes RS1 | Toyo Tires
Toyo also has the RR in 205/50 & 225/50 x15, this tire has been showing up on a lot of the '73 RS clones around here and gets good reviews from the owners, it's not a street tire though, more like a Hoosier R6

Nice! Considering that shaving is not required for the track, price is reasonable too.

I drive on the street all the time with shaved RA-1's (they don't puncture easily like Hoosiers), so I would guess these would work on a dry highway just as well?

Hey guys - I'm currently driving some super-heavy 17" cup replicas on my car for lack of decent street rubber for my 15s. Are the RA-1's/888/NT-01 really a viable street tire? I'd have thought they'd not last long enough, or be unpredictable until sufficiently warm...

The only other non-R-compound tires I'm seeing out there in 205/225 are Kuhmo ASX and Falken 912 all-seasons.

Yeah, RA-1s wear really well for a performance tire
