I know it's an inferior 911, but........
So on the way to work this morning in my SC, I take my exit offramp and come to a stop in the middle lane to make a left turn. So none other than a 993 Carrera RS pulls up to me on my left. Now, I get excited anytime I see ANY air cooled Porsches. 914, 912, doesn't matter. It's aircooled, it's a Porsche. it's cool! But this is a 993 Carrera RS, black with orange accents! Stunning!
So I'm really checking out this guys car, and it is very cool. A 993 RS is not something you see everyday. I'm obviously checking it out and expecting him to look over so maybe I can give him a thumbs up, or whatever, maybe get a thumbs up from him on my car. Dude never once even glances my way! What's up with THAT! Some sort of 911 elitism? I get comments and compliments on my car all the time. This guy in his 'holy grail' of 993's wouldn't even give my car a glance!!

Jerks are allowed to buy any car they can afford.
It is just a status symbol for him. Probably a fake.

I'm actually surprised when I get an acknowledgement from another Pcar these days...

With some folks you don't wave or nod, but you give them "chin" as a form of reverse nodding. After looking, you look away and give the chin of acknowledgement. Make no further eye contact.
Just kidding, but not really... |

Which is worse... no acknowledgement from another p-car or getting a headlight flash from a VW?

I had a 996 sneak up next to me the other day. I didn't even notice until he honked at me. Some of us are just too focused sometimes.

I have been verbally abused for having the roof down in my 911. One guy went to a lot of trouble to wind his window down and stick his head out and call me an a***ole....

I pulled up next to a very nice looking 996 C4S at a light yesterday and gave the guy a little wave, not expecting much back. I was surprised when the driver took the time to roll down his window (apparently his a/c works!) and ask me what year mine was. I told him it was an '89 and then he went on to tell me how nice looking he thought it was. So they're not all jerks...

Most of the time I find that newer car owners (996/997/Boxster) don't acknowledge the older cars. One morning recently I was driving a zippy little back road and I drove past a 996 going the other way. He was the first to flash and he had a big smile and gave me a thumbs up. We both knew why we were on that road. It's like sharing an inside joke.
But my experience is almost always other air-cooled owners acknowledge each other. I met the family for dinner the other night and as I got out of the 911 there were 3 couples walking into the restaurant. The guys all stopped to talk. One of the guys said his dad was a Porsche and VW mechanic back in the early '70s and his earliest memories was handing his dad tools as he worked on the cars. Maybe the guy just didn't see you. I've been in "the zone" before.

Sometimes when you know you are being stared at you just stare ahead and pretend no-one is looking... But another p-car is a different story...

He didnt see you. Is this news? Not worthy of a post, in fact I'm wasting my time replying to it.
Haaa. It's all good, happens to me quite often in my ugly duckling 964

I had a pleasant experience last Sunday at the Garden State Parkway around noon. I was just cruising within the limit 70mph when all of a sudden a silver 993 came on my right blasting passed me. When he noticed me on his left, he pulled on the brakes, slowed down and waited for me. When we were side by side, he pulled down his window and gave a thumbs up sign and I did replicate the gesture. On my way home on my exit a 560SL (W107) honked and flashed at my behind and I replicated by waving thru my sunroof.
I had my share of snobs from water pumpers but get more excited with classic Pcar or non-pcars sharing the same respect for the marquee.

A ducktailed Guards Red coupe isn't exactly subtle, and I'm guessing this dude doesn't know what CIS is! I guess I'm just used to the Jeep community where the older the Jeep model is, the more acknowledgement it gets from it's peers.

I was driving my old van a few years ago and a Lamborghini diablo and a Ferrari 360 Modena pulled up behind me.
My van was red and had 2 seats... I had stuck a Ferrari sticker on the back door. The guys in the sport cars were laughing so much at the van... At the next set of lights, the guy in the Modena pulled up along the van, opened his window and offered me a ride. My wife kindly took over the van and I went off for a 20 mile spin in the Ferrari (passenger only). I always thought Ferrari drivers were snobby, this guy was a real petrolhead and loved all kinds of cars.We all have an interest in nice cars and I think you will find that even the people with bigger wallets will appreciate us lesser mortal's cars. |

I dont think they brought 993 RS to the states? Must of been modded? Seems like some one who would own that would know a little about the older cars. maybe he just bought it because it was 'cool'.
