No more guido window tint....

I finally got around to removing my 80's vintage guido bluish purple faded window tint. Holy cow it looks sooooooo much better. Why didn't I do this sooner?

Borrowed a clothes steamer, came off easy. Piece of cake!

I used a heat gun and some acetone to clean up the residual glue.
The PO had the glass wrapped with tint. It was under all the seals
It wasn't until I had the glass out to replace the headliner that I was able to finish the job.

Tint Removal

Just did this myself last weekend.

Handheld electric steamer shaped like a small vacuum cleaner. Followed the instructions on a couple of threads from this board. Moved slowly and got it very hot and wet. Peeled carefully. On a couple of occasions the tint split into two sheets....double the process if you go too fast.

Also speedy removal will leave a glue residue.

Took a couple of hours to clear the whole car. Not hard, just patience and some contorting.

Thanks to the guys who wrote about the ease with which one can do this w/out spending a couple of hundred dollars.... Scott

Why the tint hate? If you live in the south it's survival.

another easy removal tip: tint hates Ammonia. Spray it with regular windex or diluted ammonia and cover with a garbage bag out in the sun. It will peel right off....with the adhesive.

No haters here..... I love tint, just not when it gets old and turns faded blue and purple and makes everything out the back window look like a Dali painting.

As for the guido's..... I could put the fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror back up!
