86 Carrera rough idle

Hi, I have a great "barn find" 86 cab but it has a rough idol. It starts up and fluctuates or just dies out. Any ideas would help ,thanks.

All kinds of stuff could be wrong. From simple to catastrophic.

I'll start.

No compression in one or more cylinders.

Any ideas as to how long since it has been since it was last run/started?
There is so much you may need to, but it isn't a really long list.
Maybe clean/replace the plugs.
Drain tank / flush the fuel.
Replace fuel & Air filters.
Replace vacuum lines to throttle body (TB) and check the others (to brake booster, charcoal canister, oil tank).
Maybe clean the injectors & TB.

more ideas will come or do a little search here.
Post a pic too, and good luck.

I'd start with the most probable first (and if the car hasn't been given a good 'ol Italian tuneup...do that FIRST) . Then...start by making sure your ICV (idle control valve) is functioning properly (search the archives...lots of info) and that you have no vacuum leaks. Both are common issues...

ps: Use search topics like "ICV" and "hunting idle"....lots of us have BTDT. Good luck!

The cht was a problem I had with a cab I owned that sat for 8 years. As mentioned check the IAC.
Check for vac leaks also. Start with the easy stuff.
