Main Seal

Hi all,
Attacking various leaks...pulled the flywheel to find this. Does this look OK or is the main seal on it's way out? Have seen much worse pics on this forum...would rather not have to replace it if I can.
Appreciate any feedback.
John

Your photo isn't sharp enough for me to tell conclusively, but if its not damp or wet around the perimeter of the seal, its OK.

I would replace the oil pressure sender, thermostat O-ring, and breather gasket to prevent oil leaks contaminating the clutch disc. Thats SOP for any clutch job.

It doesn't look bad. I am a little excessive and always fall for the while your in there stuff myself. The first time I changed it on mine it did leak a bit, so the second time I did not set it as deep, leaving it slightly proud of the lip and it sealed well. Clean off the other seals and put some JB weld over them.

Thanks, Steve.
Dry around the perimeter of the seal..all the seals you mentioned are lined up and ready to go in!

Ed,
I too am a "while you're in there" type of guy, but from what I've read it can be tricky to get this one right...I think I'll leave it alone...plenty else to do!

Regarding this gasket, is it sacrilege (or just wrong) to put some gasket goop (Permatex #2?) on given the double downside of it leaking onto the clutch disc and the time to replace it if is leaking?

I never use any sealant of any kind on that one.

I've seen far too many ruined engines due to excessive use of such products.
