Exclamation question from a newbie

Hello and glad I found this forum. I have a question concerning a '74 911 a client of mine owns and has offered to sell. I do not know the mileage, but the car seems to be in fantastic shape. It has what appears to be a 930 body kit, and it has an "aftermarket" turbocharger installed. I believe he told me it was a 3L, not the 2.7, but not sure. The car has air but doesn't blow cold. I believe the car "scared" him, as he said it was hard to drive with the turbo, as he "can run up on someone's tail faster than you can stop."

My question is, assuming the mechanicals are in good shape, what value range would a car like this have? He quoted me a figure which I found supprisingly low. As a matter of fact, I purchased a 71 911 E in rough shape for slightly under that figure about 14 years ago!! Honestly, I believe he told me "about 6500.00" I know for a fact that he paid more than that for the car. I am trying to talk my wife into taking my 91 bmw and selling her VW cabriolet (89) and buying this thing!!!

What problems should I look for with this car? I am pretty fair with a wrench, having owned a V-12 Jag in the past (lol)

Thanks!

Tim D

Tim,
take the car to Porsche mechanic prior to even thinking of purchasing it.
that's the only advice I can give.

The car is possibly worth $6500 in parts if its in fair shape, so the price is not a big problem.

KMatts is correct, get someone who knows about Porsches to do a pre-purchase inspection, then you know what you are working with. Where are you located and we can suggest someone impartial to look at the car.

ok, thanks for the info. Can someone tell me how to spot a broken head bolt(stud)? Is that a common issue now? I also know about pan rust in Targas, but what about coupes? Any trouble areas to be concerned with? I am in east central Mississippi, Meridian area.

Thanks for the advise

Hey, Joeaksa, I see you are a pilot...do you fly for a living? I love flying but don't get to do much of it. Do you own?
