I plan on installing my 3.0 in my 77 911 without the induction system, alternator or anything on top., as well as heat exchangers, etc. Is this recommended? will I be able to install everything after the engine is in? I figure if I do it this way, I wont have to raise the car as high.

I think you'll regret it, as there's a lot of stuff that is hard to reach and fit in once the engine is in place. Given the choice I'd jack the car up further. Jim

While it is possible to do it that way, it would be a lot harder. Some of the mounting bolts are hard to get to with the engine out of the car.
When I did my clutch, I raised the car about 18" in the back, then dropped the engine onto a cart. Once they were 2 pieces, I raised the car high enough to get the engine out from underneath, then dropped it back to 18" as a working height. When it went back in a few days later, I reversed the process. This way it is only really high for a very short time, in my case about 15 min total. One other method is to slide the engine under the car w/o dolly. On slick surface if possible. Then raise the engine from each side and slip the jack or lift under it. Now you are ready. Also, it helps to have the nose of the car down while slipping motor under, then level the car.
