Look what happened to my old '72 T!

I bought this car as a potential track car. Started out as a barf green 72T coupe. When too many projects had to come first, I sold it to Hank Watts and look what he did to it:

It's fast, turbocharged and with Hank driving it, nearly unbeatable. Glad somebody got it that knew what to do with it.
I get a ride in it as part of the deal, should be fun.
I'm getting the entire suspension back from him if anybody needs it, let me know.

Paul, I'm due for a ride next week. Hank says he is "still learning to drive it and keeping the dashboard switches (boost and such) off the "Stupid" settings." This coming from the guy who literally wrote the book on autocross and is not a bad track driver as well, I can only assume the car is a monster. I'll post better photos next week. All I know now is that when I sold it to him he said he was going to build his ideal killer track car. So far, I think he did.

Ok, here's the scoop on this 72T. It now has a 993 twin turbo motor with the full rear 993 suspension. Man would I like to drive that car. So far, all I've been promised is a ride so that will have to do. I origianlly bought that car because it had been rebuilt and then left to sit. The T's cast iron barrels allowed corrosion which locked the rings to the sleeves and the motor would not spin. I've got the motor in boxes in my garage waiting for the right inspiration and all of the old suspension is waiting for me to pick up as well so if anybody needs a complete suspension system for an early car let me know.

There is no way that car will perform with that small of a wing ;-) Looks like a Civic owners wet dream...hehe. Seriously tho, cool car. Take a video camera for a lap so the rest of us can live vicariously =)

How do we get Hank Watts to an R Gruppe meeting? I'd love to see that car.

Good idea, I'll see if I can get him to our next event. In the mean time I'll get better photos and maybe a video of the ride.
I'll see which POC and PCA events he's seduled for as well.

Hey Bruce,

You might want to mention to your buddy that there's a UFO hovering just above his engine lid! -- Curt

Gibson,

Please find out what that color is. That has to be one of the best blues I've ever seen. Take more pics when you get a chance.

It's funny. There was a time, not too long ago, when I would have seen that tail as ridiculous. But for the track, it's the only way to get that kind of downforce. I went and saw a bunch of tails just like that at this year's POC Tribute to Le Mans race, and now I've got one in the works for my 73 that will look very close to that.

Sure, it's big. But when you see one on a car running 1:16's at Willow Springs, it kind of takes on a beauty all its own.

Of course, for the street, I'll stick with the fastback look.

Curt, I think the whole car is a UFO! That wing is a monster but like Jack says, you have to get the power down somehow and that's the way he chose to do it. It is street licensed and on the street it's wing is much more subtle.
I'll find out the color in the next week or two and post a lot more photos.
