Are these pads OK?

I just bought these off Ebay. They are Hawk Blue MT-4. To me they appear to be water damaged. I have never seen brake pads that look all cracked and crumbly on the sides, when they are new. Is this how Blue MT-4 pads should look?

Have never ever seen pads with cracks like that. I don't race or auto cross, though. I don't like what I am seeing.

Was it clear in the Ebay add there were cracks?

Never seen cracks like that. Email a pic to Hawk and ask them for a ruling.

Right, me neither. This doesn't give me confidence hitting the brakes at 120-130 with crumbly pads. No, they were sold as "new". I already sent a message with photo asking for a replacement/return. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

A lot of counterfeit brake pads on eBay. Trusted seller?

Usually you'll see cracks on the surface area from hard use ... i'll have to agree with the rest of the boys, maybe i'm wrong but those layered cracks are not confidence inspiring !

I would never install those on any car ...

Cheers

Those are delaminating and will fail ... Likely catestrophicly. Send them back and buy from a reputable deler.

Yes, they are going back. The seller did have 100% positive feedback for about 350 transactions. The description said they were "liquidating old inventory". I guess it's possible that the "liquidator" doesn't know anything about what they are selling, which is a little disconcerting. I also bought a set of Hawk Blacks for the rear. Those look fine. If they want to send me a replacement, I think I'll ask for photos of the actual pads first.

Plenty of scammers out there with 100% feedback. Been some years, but one attempted to scam me on a cobbled up POS amplifier purchase some years back (that could have easily burned my house down). He was a total scammer, but had a high volume of transactions and a 100% rating at the time. He picked the wrong guy . He didn't have a 100% after we were through, but within a few months, it was back however . Buyer beware....

ps: The jist of his argument while I was getting my $ back was "BUT look at my 100% track record"...I hate scammers

Experience in the industry says those are not right. Go to the manufacturer, they should be embarrassed.

Yeah, even Motormeister has 100% positive feedback, but if you look (as pointed out be an upstanding member of this fine community) it is mainly for buying, not selling.

Dumb question, I know, but pads are not that expensive, and brakes are "kinda" important. Why didn't you just purchase some from our host?

Could be because he wanted Hawk Blue MT-4 pads and our host doesn't sell them. -J

If that's the case, there are far better places to get top quality Hawk pads:

Bingo!

Good news is that the Ebay seller gave me a full refund and I bought a set of (good) Blue pads from Tirerack.

Yes, lesson learned.

Now, off to Road America!
