Alternator rebuild around Atlanta?

87 911 Alternator has been making a noise for awhile, light coming on until I revved her up, lookin like alt. is gone. I went to a near flaps and got a $165, prob a mistake, and will keep my old one, instead of the $45 core money back. Anybody know where I can take my old one and have it rebuilt? Been searching google, can't find any shops, say parts not available.

Try Auto Electric Manufacturing in Marietta (770-424-1274). I walked into thier shop a couple of months ago with the alternator for my '71 to seeffi they worked on old Porsche stuff. He pointed at a table behind them that had a half dozen old Porsche Alterbnators he was restoring. Really old school place. I cant eremember what he said his going rate was fro a full rebuild, but I remebering it being far less than buying new one.

He ran some tests on my alternator for me and found nothing wrong, so he didn't charge me a dime for his time.

Good luck - Farrell

Farrell, your guy said he could rebuild anything and he replaces everything. Sounded like he was old enough, that he prob has. $120-$140. Kinsley, your guy was in the same price range. Marietta is closer to Carrollton, so I will ride that way. If I was in a hurry to get it back, I'd prob take it to the guy in Cumming. Thanks a bunch guys.

+1 on Auto Electric Manufacturing. I've used them for years for alternator and starter rebuilding on Porsche and USA cars. They are definitely Old School, which is a good thing.

I made it by Auto Electric Friday afternoon. Looks like you go back in time, when you walk in. Just a couple of good O'l boys. He had an alt. for a 66 Porsche just finished. Had some, really old, wiper motors he built for a truck somebody was restoring. Said he works on any electric motor that is D/C. He will have mine ready Wdnesday, thats seem quick If anybody needs his service. 7704241274 & 7704280966. Told me not to tell too many people. Didn't want to have to hire a new person. Oh yeah, he's also rebuilding the engine compartment heater blower. Things squeals like a pig.
