rear spring plate adjustment.

I am changing my rear bars from 28mm to 30mm. The car previously was corner balanced and significantly lowered. I have fully adjustable spring plates and I am trying to decide where I should have the plates rest with the new bars. I scribed a line on the car with masking tape and a pencil and also took an angle measurement, so I can easily duplicate my old settings with the new bars. Since these bars are stiffer, I would want to raise the plate slightly to adjust for the increased stiffness. Any suggestions how much? one or two spines? I do have the luxury of fine tuning them with the adjustment screws.

Hi:
I finally came up with a method to determine spring plate angle, and the procedure resides in the Rennlist Tech Forum. Thom Fitzpatrick later collaborated with me and he converted this into a simple software spreadsheet, where you input the variables and it spits out the answer. Look at his web page.
Hint...the proper answer is not the obvious...if you only take into account the spring stiffness change by recognizing the fourth power influence on TB diameter. More involved than that.

Here's the Handy Dandy Spring Plate Angle Calculator

You'll want to swing by Harbor Fright[sic] and pick up one of those magnetic protractors - ~$5

89,

When I put my 29's in, I started with Thom's calculated 22-23 degrees. Which worked great. Thanks Thom and Wil! Whatever it spits out for 30mm will give you a really close place to start.

Upon reassembly, my rear end is a little low on the driver's side (24 3/4 in. floor to fender at center of wheel measurement), so I have to raise that side up a bit. Hopefully I have enough adjustment left to get that side up to 25. I don't feel like pulling the bar and reindexing again, but most importantly I don't want to lose the alignment settings.
