Need a car transported from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles

As it says.

I can bid out random carriers and get it done, but if someone here has a "favorite" transportation resource, I'd appreciate the lead.

This will be an open trailer transport of a running 911.

Horseless carriage did a great job from CA to NY. Enclosed trailer and great service. They spend extra time protecting car and specialize in "special" cars especially vintage collectors.

Techweenie,

I am doing the same thing right now, shipping the 911 from NM to MA.
I got tons of bids by putting info through a website such as:

http://www.autotransportbids.com/

Then I selected the one I wanted to use by checking their reviews on:
Transport Reviews.com - Ratings and Reviews of Auto Transport Companies - Your Source For Finding a Quality Auto Transporter!

I ended up going with Paragon:
Car Shipping, Auto Transport, Vehicle Shipper, Paragon Transport

They are charging $1275 for a non-running 911 on open trailer
Running would be $100 less.

The distance is 2,225 miles so it works out to $0.57/mile.
All the quotes I got were between $950 and $1300 so $0.42 to $0.58/mile.

I decided not to go with the chaeapest because I was more concerned about reliablity on pick-up and delivery time than cost.

Beware of scammers that will try to charge a fee upfront and will not come through.
I almost got scammed by transport relief LLC and had to put a stop order on a $200 check I gave them. Check their review and you will know what I mean.

Good luck!

Techweenie,

I agree with Aurel about not going with the cheapest company, you get what you pay for out there! Kelly at Autozipper.com helped me get my lotus transported from MA to NM. For an enclosed carrier was $250 deposit and $1750 to the driver. I've dealt with other brokers before, and they always seem to drop the ball after taking my deposit. Kelly kept me informed and updated until my car was delivered. I highly recommend using them, as I will if I ever transport another vehicle.

I know others have thrown out this, but I may as well throw my name into the ring.

I have a buddy that lives in North LA that I'd love to visit. I'd be willing to drive it to your house from Utah for the price of a plane ticket from Portland to Utah, gas and a return ticket from LA to Portland.

Thanks, guys!

If I knew the condition of tires & brakes and if it had been driven more than 2 miles in the last 6 years, I'd be road tripping.

I've also done UShip, which I don't recommend. They are brokers who put you in touch with brokers who bid & then find truckers. The relationship between the brokers and truckers can be testy.

I went with Secured Auto Transport in Murray UT

Fingers crossed.

Just shipped a '67 Mercedes 250SL, mint condition, on Intercity. Enclosed trailer but worth it. Excellent service.

If you search, you'll find they are hands down the preferred shipper on Pelican.

I had my car shipped from Seattle to Texas. I called many big name carriers and the route was not common enough so many would not bid. Then I tried some brokers and I received many calls but never got a great feeling.

In the end, I talked to a classic car shop up the road from my house. They regularly ship cars and have access to some reliable but small carriers. The cost was the same or less than others I had received and I felt like this dealer was legit since he used these folks in the past.

Maybe an option for you - worked out great for me.

BTW, my transport was an enclosed 2 story/ 6 car carrier. My car did not come off the whole time and I had the driver's phone number. I read some stories about open transport and I felt better with enclosed. The picture of a 911 loaded backward on a carrier and the rear decklid ripped off did it for me

Just shipped a 912 from Pittsburgh to LA- I was the seller. Enclosed trailer about 2600 miles. I got a glimpse of the invoice ~ $1800. It was a beautiful ! trailer.

I sent one to San Diego last year. Came off the trailer in Amarillo, Texas. Police found the car on rte 10!! Got a call from them 6AM wanting to know if it was our car. Driver wanted me not to tell the new owner. I did tell the new owner. There is more to the story......

NO OPEN TRAILERS FOR ME.

Now on the hunt for a targa.
