1987 carrera..
I have not changed my distributor cap and ignition rotor and wire set for over 10 years...car runs well! 75,000 miles. 1. do you believe that I should change those as a preventative activity? 2. does any one has a step by step procedure (with pictures if possible ) on how to lubricate the distributor? Thanks |

Definitely change them. Not sure what you mean about lubing the dizzy.

lubricating the dizzy
some threads talk about oiling the felt...I do not know where the felt is or how to find it...this is what I mean by lubricating...any instructions? or suggestions?

Aha, that point. Be stingy with the oil. One drop is plenty.

Make sure the felt pad is in the center, I like 4-6 drops, just make sure it has the dust shield installed. Make sure it doesn't look like this under the rotor. DME sets the timing, but the centrifugal weights keep the rotor aligned.

the pics show something that is not an adequate long term service for the distributor; it is a yearly service item only
you need to use the site's search facility and find a long thread by the late Warren Hall, who posted as Early_S_man or something similar that thread should also be referenced in the long term maintenance thread |
