1976/77 Carrera engine cover lettering
i am looking at a 76 carrera.. the engine cover is a carrera tail with the small grille and large grille and whale tale.
the engine cover has chrome letters that the owner assures me that the car came from the factory with the letters and they only say "911" My question were any carrera's sent from the factory with this lettering rather than Carrera3.0 or Carrera?

47silver,
Does your Carrera tail look like this but without the Carrera 3.0 badge. Apologies for the hijack........ Bill Verburg, Is this an original Carrera 3.0 tail? Sorry about using a magazine pic but it was the best pic I had at hand of my tail. badge ![]() Cheers Bill

tail
that is the tail, but in lieu of "Carrera" it has "911".
the vin number and engine number are both Carrera. I asked if it had been replaced or in an accident and he said no, he imported it from Germany years ago and that is how it came. it has the original paint and he has the COA with it. I do not have a copy of it yet. It appears that everything else on the car is carrera, the wheels, the flares, the headlight washers...the steering wheel. everything except the script.

The current replacement scripts are only glued on If it only has 911 then the lid and script have been replaced, when and by who is a mystery.

The fact that the car was delivered in Germany may be a clue. In the 60's and 70's, some Germans wanted to be modest about what they had so all the major manufacturers offered a bade delete or badge reversion option through the dealers so that 450SL Benzes could be delivered with 280SL badging for instance. The Carrera 3.0 was actually a huge step up in price from the standard 2.7 911 so that could have been the case with this car. Not definitive, but a possibility not to be overlooked.
Besides, if the CoA is all correct and the car is clean and tidy and 'honest'....buy it! ![]() |

I just bought a new Carrera 3.0 script from my local porsche dealer for my new tail less lid and it fixes on with four studs and speed nuts. No stick ons down under! Cheers Bill
