Droning Noise - 911 SC

Hi Guys,

Car is 79 SC with new wheels/tires.

When I steer a BIT to the left (hardly at all) I get a loud droning noise from the rear end. This is whether the car is in gear under power or in neutral and coasting. If I turn the wheel a bit the right of center (or just about center), the droning noise goes away.

I'm really stumped, any ideas???

Or CV joint. Does it increase in each gear or is it constant?

Yup. The classic sign of a bad or loose wheel bearing. A total pain, but not the end of the world.

The droning sound changes as the speed changes, the frequency gets lower at slower speeds.

Is there a way to determine which side? i.e. if turning left (A bit) causes the sound then does that indicate a particular side?

Thanks for the help so far!

It could indicate a particular side but IMO this is something that when you do one you do the other.

Chew on that idea
