Ticket Attorney in Georgia?

Mods feel free to move this, but figured it would get more exposure as this is the high traffic forum.

Does anyone have an attorney that can help defend/clear a ticket in Georgia? Friend of mine got one and is from Florida. We have some attorney's here who can usually represent you and get you of of the ticket and no points (not always).

Thanks in advance.

I would possibly put the county in which he got it in.... If its in South GA, it would not be cost effective for an attorney in Atlanta to take the case....

In most states the local defense / motor vehicle attorneys will send the person who got the ticket letters advertising their services (ask me how I know... thank you Virginia State Police). I live in NJ and I know that it is local practice here for ANYONE who gets any motor vehicle violation.

Additionally, I think your friend would be best served by the local defense attorneys, rather than a referral to a good attorney who is even a little farther away.

That is what I was looking for, a referral in South GA (ticket was 20 min out of Atlanta) for a local defense/ motor vehicle attorney. One who deals in out of state individuals who get stopped in the state.

The guy we use here in Tampa; you send him the ticket with $150 and he handles it and in most cases sends you a letter that the ticket has been dismissed. Sometimes he cannot get it dismissed, but he has a bustling business, so he must be effective.

Atlanta is considered Atlanta... a state upon its own... However, it is still North GA... South GA is close to the FL border... FYI...

FWIW, what is the speed he was cited for?

24 over. I think they want an appearance. Said he was passing someone and they clocked him as he pulled out to the fast lane to pass.

Was it the state patrol or the local county/city? Either way 24 over is super speeder law, he may want to find someone to help him no matter the location in GA.

^^+1.

Have you seen the movie "Cars".... be wary of the purple Porsche (prosecutor). They might require someone to repave the roads after the mandatory court appearance (movie reference due to having toddlers).

I wish that driver well, but based on experience I highly suggest finding a local attorney who can properly explain this excessive speed was only due to a hung open throttle or somebody on their deathbed?

I drove i95 from Florida to South Carolina and back a few days ago, I was just amazed at the large amount of troopers in Georgia, hit CC at speed limit which was actually lower than FL and SC until I exited the state.

I lived in Georgia for 8 years. I-95 was an example of Autobahn-lite. 70 MPH speed limit. You had to be over 85 to get noticed. I regularly cruised at 90+.

As for Atlanta, what was the posted speed? Traffic is so congested there, you drive whatever speed everybody else is going. What time of the day was it? As others have said, Atlanta is considered N or NW Georgia.

Obvious question: Have you done a search for attorneys who handle tickets in the Atlanta area. It's a BIG city with lots of residents who speed and have more money than sense. If there isn't a lawyer there who can handle this matter, I'm going back to school for my Juris Doctorate! Sorry I can't be any more help.

How about he just show up and pay the ticket? He knows the law. He got caught. Maybe a larger rant, but I'm tired of people in this country not taking responsibility for themselves, and using lawyers to get out of everything. I've had over 24 speeding tickets in my life, and I never fought one of them because I deserved ever single one. Last one I got was 21 over and required a court appearance. Told the judge what happened, didn't make any excuses, judge gave me the minimum fine, and I got 6 points on my record (can get 12 annually here in CO). My insurance premiums went up 24 dollars a year.

I speed all the time when I pass cars (who doesn't), but I'm not going to pretend like the law doesn't apply just because I'm passing someone.

AMEN "wrinkled pants"...... yes it sucks getting a ticket but it's always the risk you take "exercising" our cars.

He was speeding, pay the bill, get over it.

Just pay it if its just a speeding ticket. In GA you will also get hit with the super speeder but it still shouldn't be more than $450. Next time he should use a radar or watch the bridges better

If they want an appearance then it is more than speeding he is being charged with.

In terms of points you can call them and ask. In some counties they will waive points if you pay very quickly. What county was it?

Also I agree with a previous poster. In GA they are not very strict at all on speeding. To get a ticket your budy must have been way over the limit. They normally ignore anything under 80.

Thanks to the Pelican I spoke with on the phone. Appreciate your time and my friend said to thank you as well.

The facts as I know them:

He was driving to Atlanta and on the main highway doing 79 (in a 70) and the road changed to a secondary highway and evidently the speed limit dropped. He said he was going with the flow, but had pulled to the passing lane to pass a slower moving vehicle and just as he accelerated, is when the officer lit him up.

He is a former law enforcement guy and not one to do anything out of line or excessive. He said that the limit had reduced and he had not noticed it or would have adjusted his speed accordingly.

His ticket is $700+ and then has a $200 super speeder tax on top. The reason is he was hit for 79 in a 50 on a highway. It requires an appearance and he works 9-5 M-F in Florida. So the cost is a bit more than the ticket.

Fulton was the county.

Fulton County is the main part of the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Your friend could retain an attorney who should be able to represent him in court. Usually all they can do is work a deal with the prosecutor to reduce the ticket to 15 over the posted speed limit provided your friend takes a defensive driving course, Factor in everything and he would not really save much other than the time he would need to take off from work. I'm surprised they didn't arrest him and make him post a bond since he was out of state. Ga is serious about speeders and they target cars that are traveling in front of the pack. Yes one can drive 90 mph all day long, just don't be in frony or have a big open highwat in front of you. I average about a ticket per year and have really backed off after a super speeder that I had my attorney handle several months ago.

WilyWill - that is exactly what he said, he pulled around the slow car and was the "front" car.

He has a few calls in to attorney's now. He would definitely pay and try to get the reduction and do the course.

I know when I cross that FL/GA boarder the GA State Patrol is EVERYWHERE. Next trip up I am upgrading my laser difuser.

Sometimes, being the "front" car is unavoidable -- especially if you've been driving for hours in a pack traveling above the speed limit. The "fastest" or front car quickly exiting the highway is a great example. Ideally, you want to be 3rd or 4th in a group of 6. That isn't always possible.

Also, where do you think a trooper is going to clock people? In the middle of a 10 mile stretch (70 mph) or 1 mile into a 70-65-50 transition?

I traveled back and forth to South Carolina from Georgia for years. Locals knew to slow down when leaving or entering either state. The rest got tickets, especially people from out of state that were not going to drive back for a hearing.

I got more speeding tickets in my first year of driving than all the rest combined. Guess what: I was always the front car. Nobody mentioned to me that I should "pace" faster cars and sit back in the pack. Hard lesson learned.

Google "fulton county super speeder attorneys" - several options...

I had the same thing happen in VA - called to ask how much the ticket was and they told me I had to appear in court and it was a felony.. lined up a local attorney and got it down to a taillight issue, no points, no moving violation. had to pay the lawyer a lot and the fine was hefty, but no insurance impact and nothing on my record...

Don't try to do this on your own..
