Factory paint color or the blue thats on it now...
I'm going to be painting my '77 911S soon while the 3.2 and the 915 box are out for a rebuild. My issue is I'm torn between what color to paint it. The original color is platinum metallic and I really like the way the factory color looks, I also don't mind the blue that's on it now. Should I take the car down to the tub and repaint it back to the factory color? Is it going to have more value that way or does that not matter when it has the wrong engine and widebody? I would like to hear some opinions and thoughts...thanks!

Factory color for me, much nicer. I don't think you'll recoup your investment should you sell but having the factory color is a plus when selling.

The factory color is nice.
The value of your car won't be affected much by color due to the many mods it already has. I really like viper green and would paint a car like yours in that color. ![]()

With the mods it has I would bet a purist is already going to look away from this one when it comes time to sell, so unless you're going to switch the body back to stock during the repaint, I'd say paint it whatever color you like. As long as the color isn't objectionable it probably won't matter much.

+1 on pick any color. With flares and spoilers, it isn't an original car anyway, so factory color is probably irrelevant.
Lots of cool middie or earlier colors to choose from, and frankly, platinum metallic (ie, gold) isn't one of them. On later cars, I'd estimate it is a 10% hit on value compared to even common colors like GR, black, or white. Signal Orange, Gulf Blue, Light Yellow...lots of options, most better than factory or what you currently have. And if well done in a desirable color, it might even add to value.

i agree with the idea that any color is an option. it's already a non-original car, so make it as desirable as possible (to you or someone else) by picking the color of your choice. guards red, black, white all have great resale value and look terrific on a WB. you could also do something unique - for it's age - and go with riviera blue. ice green or signal yellow would also look cool. i'd paint it in a color you really want and not worry about originality at this point.
