transmission jumps out of 2nd & 4th
1974 911 5 speed just recently started having difficulty getting into 2nd gear and now when I do get it into 2nd it jumps out and just today it happened in 4th. 1st,3rd, & fifth appear to be o.k. Is this a bushing issue, adjustment problem, or is it the transmission itself. Hoping it's not the later. Only thing I did recently was to replace the pull up throttle plastic piece that has disintegrated .
Thanks in advance for any insight |

kinda sounds like the gears are not engaging completely. check your coupler bushings first. lots of info if you search.

Yep, it sounds like your shifter is "leaning" toward the 2/4 plane (can't move the shifter far enough to engage a gear). Put the car into neutral, expose the part of the shift lever below the bend, and make sure its vertical. There will be a small amount of fore/aft play, so get the shifter into the middle of the play zone before checking it. Necessary adjustments can be made at the coupler, but read up on coupler bushings/adjustment first.
