Could this have added to the leak?
Check out these 2 photos, where the angle of the female bevel in the housing is clearly off...
Could this have been from me over tightening? In contrast, the "new"/used one I got from DC has an even angle all the way around the holes. Lastly, could this have damaged the oil lines or theyre much harder and that + over tightening are what caused this... Just don't want to put it all back together, have that sense of accomplishment, and want to rake my eyes out when it starts dripping again... I would tend to agree that the t-stat looks like it's been subjected to over-tightening. Take a good look at the oil lines to see if they have any distortion on the spherical end. The oil lines are probably not damaged, since the aluminum of the t-stat is rather forgiving.
