humid beaches to fresh mountain air!

so i just recently relocated from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Vancouver, BC. After looking at the cost of shipping the car, shipping the 2 motorbikes, as well as the stuff we needed/wanted to keep, the only real solution was a cross country road trip!
22' Penske truck with both bikes inside, and car hauler for the Targa(which came off to enjoy MANY times)
thought id share a few pics of the trip and see if any pelicans from the vancouver area would be up for a meet.

So you make the boss get out to take the pic of the buffalo while you hunker down in the bowels of a mini tank cause you're buffalo-phobic. Nice.

Where were the pups on the long legs of the trip? In the 911 on the trailer might have worked if not too toasty.

Third pic is awesome. Where?

I love beagles.

That is a big move! Do it for work or lifestyle change?

Pets

That's quite the journey! I hope you'll like it here. It's spectacular when the sun is out as you see this week, but the winters can be long and dreary. My wife is an animal lover. We have two black labs, an Eccletus parrot and a registered thoroughbred. Not sure how the horse will get along with your buffalo

pups hung out in the penke truck with us. did get crowded and frustrating at times.... peticularly when trying to eat my subway and my beagle thinking its "our" subway

third pic was from The Badlands National park, South Dakota... simply awesome!
The bisson was from Yellow Stone national park. and the last couple were near Mount Rush more.

My girlfriend is going back to school for her masters in accounting. so i guess school/work for her, and lifestyle change for me.

Sounds like a wonderful trip -- good idea exercising the SC!

Please keep the reports and pics coming...gorgeous 911!

During Oct I plan to drive a '10 997.2 C4S from VA to Raleigh, NC, then to Memphis and then I'll head northwest to Mt. Rushmore, The Badlands, Yellowstone and who knows where else in the Northern Rockies. ending up in NorCal, so if you have any suggested roads that you may have stumbled across, I'm all ears...safe travels!

I'm considering moving from Florida to Vancouver myself but can you drive the 911 year round there? I know it doesn't snow a "a lot" in the valley, but it does some. My backup auto right now is a sportbike, so I assume that wouldn't work out so good there...

Also, what do you have to do to bring the 911 with you and register it to drive there? Easy or complicated? Are there emissions inspections? I have no cat...

sure you can - not sure how many people want to...

very smart to get that car off the trailer and have some fun along the way - enjoy the West Coast!

That would be great fun. I never get to drive cross country. My husband flies me around in his Citation jet, so I never get to see the sights.

he needs a bigger jet so you can load the car in the back - also solves the airport ground transport issue

I haven't been here long enough to give you a true answer. From what i see and hear minus a few days or couple weeks here n there u can drive/ride all year around town. There is very very little rust on older cars, this tells me its pretty safe to drive all year if u needed to, good tires and your set. I also ride a sport bike as my main transport, but will pick up a jeep for winter fun and daily driving.
The car was very easy to bring in, for me anyways. I declared it at $10,000 and since im a returning citizen (i have dual) i get up to 10,000 tax free. Seeing as the 911 is older than 15 years its duty free also.
My motorcycles were canadian originally s that exempt those from duties as well.
After a year in florida, i say if your thinking about it and can make it work DO IT!! Not as warm but so much more to do and so beautiful too.
Pm me if u have other questions, glad to help.

Yes you can drive a P-car year round if you want. Mine was used as a daily driver for 15 years here and I do drive it in the winter if the conditions are good. We get very little snow, and when it does just use alternate transportation. The times during the winter when it does get below freezing they will salt the roads, so same thing use alternate transportation.

and after living in montreal which has to be the "street salting" capital of the world, you DO NOT want to put your car, bike, good shoes, clean boots, dogs paws or bottoms of yours jeans through that...
they use more salt than McDonalds does on fires...killer

unless having no floor panels and seized EVERYTHING is something your aiming for... then its OFF TO THE RACES!!!
