Permatune unit that doesn't whine
I have permatune unit in my 2.7. The engine runs fine but I do not hear the cd unit whine like it is suppose to do. Now I am under the understanding that the unit either works or it doesn't. What does it mean if the car runs but I can't hear the whine?

You must have one of those quiet Permatunes
![]() Don't worry. They either work or they don't. If the car is running, keep driving. You will know when the box dies. Good luck

The old blue anodized PermaTunes like my spare definitely whine, and can be disassembled and repaired when problems occur. The new clear (natural) anodized PermaTunes are potted in black epoxy or some other equally repair unfriendly compound ... and don't whine. If out of warranty ... repairing the new ones is pretty much limited to replacing the 100 Ohm 5 Watt pullup resistor externally ... on 3-pin units, anyway!

Mine is blue, but does not whine. Maybe it's on it's way out. It's the original.
